According to REGSEC, headed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the fatal shooting to death of Alhaji Abdul Malik Azengbe, the Ashanti Regional Chief of Kusase in Asawase on Tuesday, has culminated in these new security measures.

“In response to the recent security incident involving the fatal shooting of Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azengbe, which occurred at Asawase on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025, the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) convened a meeting on Wednesday, 23rd July 2025 to assess the situation and determine immediate action.

“Following this meeting, REGSEC resolved as follows; no motorbikes shall be permitted on the roads after 7:00pm until further notice. Additionally, there will be increased security presence in hotspot areas, involving both the police and military, to ensure peace and protect lives and property”.

The above statement was contained in a press statement issued by REGSEC on July 25, 2025, which was signed by Dr. Frank Amoakohene.

The release also announced that the use of unlicensed motorbikes without lights is strictly prohibited, adding that no motorbike rider is permitted to wear smock until further notice “as it has become an avenue for suspects to conceal weapons”.

Also, as part of the new security measures, REGSEC has suspended the ongoing inter-tribal football competition in the region with immediate effect until further notice, stressing that government is determined to stop the shootings and arrest the culprits, calling for public support in that regard.

“REGSEC assures the general public of government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and fostering a peaceful society. All necessary measures are being implemented to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous act are brought to justice.

“We also urge the public to support the ongoing investigations. The doors of the security services remain open to receive credible information that can assist in identifying and apprehending those responsible”, the release said.

REGSEC also expressed its deepest condolences to the family of the late Alhaji Abdul-Malik Azengbe on his untimely passing, indicating that REGSEC remains ready and committed to serving the public in line with its mandate.
