Kumasi Mayor, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has vowed to crack down on stubborn traders who disobey his order not to trade at unauthorised locations in central business district (CBD).
On Monday, December 1, 2025, after sanitising some parts of Adum, Komfo Anokye (Gee) Roundabout, and Bantama market, the Mayor and his team visited the Kejetia Central Market Phase 1, where he expressed displeasure over trading at entrance gates and other unapproved locations.
He warned that trading activities at all unauthorised locations in the market should stop with immediate effect.
He further promised to deal ruthlessly with traders who dared to trade at unauthorised locations in the market starting from Tuesday, December 2.
He debunked claims that he has authorised payment for allocation of spaces in the market.
He stressed that “if anyone has come with my name to ask for money to allow you sell at the entry point of the market, go back for your money. Tell the person who took the money that I’m not a thief. I don’t like the money,” he stated.
Bent on instilling sanity in the city, the Mayor is leaving no stone unturned as he has consistently deployed Metro Guards and other security operatives to the CBD on a daily basis.
Traffic flow in the CBD has improved, as well as commercial drivers’ compliance with transport regulations and order.
Though there are pockets of recalcitrant commercial drivers, sanity in the CBD is generally getting better under the Mayor’s leadership.
