Dozens of scrap dealers have flocked to the Adum disaster area, which was ravaged by fire last Friday, to capitalize on the burnt metal structures and boost their business.
Dressed in reflective jackets, mimicking those worn by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), these scrap dealers, mostly expatriates from neighboring Burkina Faso and Mali, are in a frenzied rush to collect scraps.
During Press1News.com’s visit to the disaster area today, it was observed that trucks and tricycles have been parked on site, ready to transport scraps to various collection points in the city.
Adamu Yakubu, a scrap dealer, stated that while they were not happy to be profiting from others’ losses, they were helping to clear the area of debris while earning a living.
An estimated four articulated truckloads of scrap metal are expected to be conveyed from the disaster area to collection points, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
