The Mayor for Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne on Monday which incidentally was the Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims Worldwide launched the Kumasi Road Safety Report.
The report, the Mayor noted is a collaborative effort between the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Bloomberg Philanthropies.
He noted that the report underscores the city’s achievements and challenges in enhancing road safety.
Hon Pyne emphasized the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to improving road safety in Kumasi.
Commitment:
The Mayor said road traffic accidents were preventable and therefore urged stakeholders to work together to adopt safer practices on Kunasi roads.

The Mayor outlined several interventions initiated by the KMA and its partners.
“We have carried out the installation of road safety infrastructure, public education campaigns, and enhanced enforcement of traffic regulations”, the Mayor intimated.

Nana Yaw Akuoko, Otumfuo Asinhene and Chairman of the Road Safety Advisory Board, commended Bloomberg Philanthropies for their critical role in advancing road safety initiatives in Kumasi.
He urged road users, particularly drivers and passengers, to exercise caution as the Christmas season approaches.
“This period comes with increased activities on our roads, and we must remain vigilant to prevent avoidable accidents,” he stated.
Background:
The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is observed annually to honor those who have lost their lives or suffered injuries in road crashes and to call for collective action to prevent future tragedies.
The Kumasi Road Safety Report 2023, launched during the event, provides an in-depth analysis of road traffic data in Kumasi, outlining key trends, challenges, and recommendations.
It highlights the city’s progress in reducing road fatalities and injuries and the ongoing challenges posed by speeding, poor road user behavior, and inadequate infrastructure.
Representatives from the Police MTTD and the NRSA reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the KMA’s efforts through intensified traffic enforcement and education campaigns.
