Despite it being a working day, residents in the Akrofuom and Obuasi enclave on Tuesday accorded the Vice President and flag-bearer of the NPP, Dr Mahamodu Bawumia a rousing welcome when the latter toured the enclave to commence his campaign for election 2024.
Clad in their various NPP t-shirts with some bearing the portrait of Dr Bawumia as well as others that had the portrait Bawumia and their respective parliamentary candidates, the youthful elements sang and danced to welcome the NPP flagbearer and his entourage.
As if by design, the residents in the enclave came up with an exciting rasmatazz when they had the opportunity to host the NPP flag-bearer on Tuesday afternoon.
Huge crowds lined up the streets of the Obuasi enclave to show respect to the Veep and in Akrofuom, many school pupils who heard the sound of the engines of the flag-bearer’s vehicles turning, dashed out of their classrooms to dance to the songs blaring out of the sound systems mounted on specially designed campaign vehicles.
Stakeholder Meetings:
Speaking at various stakeholder meetings in the four communities in the Obuasi enclave, Dr Bawumia said he had plans to reduce the high cost of living in the country.
Some of these, he noted was to work to ensure that rather than fuel and gas, Ghana could make use of its energy potentials in developing solar powered systems to run the country.
This, he noted would largely decrease the volumes of bills people have been paying for the consumption of power.
“Rather than continue to buy fuel and gas to power our domestic systems and industries we can develop solar farms and manufacture solar panels to power our systems and thus reduce the cost of electricity consumption in the country”, Dr Bawumia stated.
Other Plans:
Dr Bawumia said he has plans to ensure food security in the country as more farmers would be supported with fertiliser and high yielding seedlings to cultivate on the farms.
He noted that farmers would also be supported with agric mechanisation systems to allow them to grow their crops using high level technology and equipment.
Agenda 111:
The NPP flag-bearer said the next NPP government plans to clear the backlog of nurses and health assistants who have been home due to the lack of spaces to employ them in the government system.
He said the completion of the Agenda 111 hospitals across Ghana would make room for the recruitment of 70, 000 health workers and this he added would ensure that those who are at home get the opportunity to secure job opportunities.
Rallies:
At Akrofuom, Obuasi East and West as well as at the main Obuasi Market, Dr Bawumia assured the crowd that he was set to protect social intervention policies started by the Nana Akufo-Addo government.
Programs such as the planting for food and jobs, the free SHS, Free TVET and one district one factory as well as the free dialysis treatment at the hospitals, Dr Bawumia said would be continued and sustained under his presidency.
He therefore urged the residents to vote massively for him and the contesting NPP Parliamentary candidates on December 7 so that they could together usher in a transformational agenda for the country.
“I represent bold solutions for development and a vote for me would ensure the protection of useful social interventions and the starting of new policies aimed at making life more bearable for the people of Ghana”, Dr Bawumia intimated.
Catholic Bishops Meeting:
Climaxing the day’s activities, Dr Bawumia met Catholic Bishops at the Pope John Paul Seminary.
Despite the meeting being a closed door one, snippets of information filtering through shows that it was a meaningful encounter where the flag-bearer laid bare his plans and policies for the people of the country.
This, a source said was after the Vice President and flag-bearer had taken on board suggestions and concerns expressed by the respected Catholic Bishops during the meeting.
