A solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held on Wednesday November 12 at the Military Cemetery in Burma Camp to mark the fifth anniversary of the passing of former President Flight Lt.(rtd) Jerry John Rawlings.
The ceremony, officiated by Rev. Lt. Col Benjamin Kwesi Effah, brought together members of the late leader’s family, including his children, the Head of the Agbotui Family, Colonel Joshua Agbotui, and other close relatives.
The children of the late President laid a wreath on behalf of the family, paying tribute to their father’s enduring legacy and significant contributions to Ghana.
The event was a subdued and family-focused affair, reflecting the mourning and respect for the former leader.
Plans for a larger public commemoration of the fifth anniversary were postponed following the recent passing of Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former First Lady, on October 23, 2025.
The former President, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, passed away on November 12, 2020, leaving behind a legacy as Ghana’s longest-serving leader and founder of the Fourth Republic.
The ceremony served as a quiet moment of reflection on Rawlings’ life and legacy, with family and close friends remembering his contributions to the nation.
The ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) also paid glowing tribute to the late former President, acknowledging his remarkable contributions to the party in particular, and Ghana’s development as whole.
