PLANS ARE in the pipeline for the construction of seven ultramodern new stadiums in the country in 2026.
President John Dramani Mahama, making the announcement, said the positive move will help improve sporting activities in the country.
“Next year (2026) we are going to build seven new stadiums in the country. We want to make sure every region has a stadium for purpose”, he said.
The president was speaking when a joint delegation from Kotoko and Gold Stars visited him at the Jubilee House, the seat of government, in Accra.
About funding for the capital intensive project, he said his NDC administration has been able to raise enough money after cutting down the size of government.
“We decided to cut down the size of government and it has stopped waste. We will use that money to invest in important things and sports is one of them”.
Kotoko and Gold Stars will represent the country in Africa this year so they paid a courtesy call on the president for his blessings and support.
President Mahama said playing in Africa demands money so he donated US$ 50,000 each to Kotoko and Gold Stars to ease their financial burden.
