THIS YEAR’S Odwira festival of Asanteman has been postponed until further notice.
The sudden demise of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, is the reason for the postponement.
This was disclosed to the Asanteman Traditional Council by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.
Addressing the Council on Thursday, he said the festival cannot take place without an Asantehemaa.
In this regard, the Asantehene indicated that a new Asantehemaa will have to be enstooled first.
The newly enstooled Asantehemaa will then organize the funeral rites of Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III.
Afterwards, some key paramount stools in Asanteman, which are now vacant, will also have to be filled.
According to Otumfuo, the Odwira festival will be held only after the aforementioned have been fulfilled.
The Odwira festival was supposed to officially kickstart on October 31, 2025 and last for one-month.
The important festival, which has not been held for decades, is used to rekindle the spirit of Asanteman.
