Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, is confident in Mr. Kofi Adams, Minister for Sports and Recreation, and believes he is cut out for his job.
Vouching for the Minister’s competence, the Asantehene stated that he is fully sure of Mr. Adams’ capability, hoping that he will deliver to the satisfaction of Ghanaians.
“My grandson Kofi is very versatile. His capabilities are not in doubt, so I expect him to bring transformation to his ministry,” the Asantehene emphasised.
The King of Asante made these remarks when he hosted the Sports and Recreation Minister and his entourage at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
Mr. Adams was in Kumasi to tour the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which needs serious renovation to meet CAF standards, and the abandoned Youth and Sports Development Centre at Nhyinahin.
Both Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC and Bibiani GoldStars will be participating in the African clubs championships, hoping to use the stadium as their home grounds, but CAF has warned that until the stadium is put in good shape, it cannot be used.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed discomfort about the bad state of the stadium, charging the Sports Minister and government to do their best to put the stadium in good shape on time.
He said that though he had yet to visit the stadium to assess its current situation, the report from the Sports Minister was disturbing, hence the need for corporate entities to support the government in restoring the stadium to meet standards.
He also appealed to the Minister to complete the long-abandoned Youth and Sports Development Centre at Nhyinahin.
“I know, Kofi, you can help put the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in good shape and complete the sports centre at Nhyinahin for me,” Otumfuo passionately appealed.
The Sports and Recreation Minister was accompanied by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, and top officials from his ministry.
He assured the King that the government is willing to restore the condition of the stadium and complete other facilities in the country meant for sporting activities.
He thanked Otumfuo for his support, promising to work hard to justify the confidence reposed in him.
