NPP Will Reclaim Asante Akyem North Seat – Kwadwo Baah Agyemang

2 Minutes

The former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Hon. Kwadwo Baah Agyemang, has expressed firm optimism that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will reclaim its parliamentary seat in the 2028 general elections.

The constituency is currently represented by Ohene Frimpong, who secured the seat as an independent candidate in 2024.

However, speaking in an interview with an Accra-based radio station, Hon. Agyemang asserted that the party is poised for a comeback.

Analyzing 2024 Setback:

Reflecting on the previous election cycle, Hon. Agyemang attributed the NPP’s loss to the independent candidate’s ability to successfully appeal to the local electorate’s grievances.

“I am very confident that through diligent work and a unified front behind our 2028 candidate, the NPP will successfully return the Asante Akyem North seat to its fold,” Agyemang stated.

Introspection and Reconciliation:

With internal party elections on the horizon, the former lawmaker emphasized that the NPP must engage in a period of “soul-searching” to rectify the missteps of 2024.

He noted that a primary objective must be “building bridges” and reconciling with party members who felt marginalized or mistreated by government appointees and party leadership.

“Defeat is a bitter pill to swallow, but it offers invaluable lessons,” Agyemang remarked.

He added that, “We lost the 2024 election due to a variety of factors. As a responsible party, we are taking the necessary steps to correct these issues. Once we elect our flagbearer and executive officers later this year, we can begin the vital work of restructuring for 2028.”

Leadership and Vision:

Hon. Agyemang was vocal regarding the party’s future leadership, advocating for the 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to lead the party again in the next presidential race.

He argued that the 2024 defeat was not a rejection of Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, but rather a result of broader challenges, including economic pressures and governance concerns.

The former MPs support of Dr. Bawumia include:

Established Brand:

The party has already invested significantly in marketing Dr. Bawumia’s vision nationwide.

Policy Continuity:
His focus on economic digitalization remains a cornerstone for Ghana’s development.

Proven Competence:
Hon. Agyemang believes the Vice President’s ideas are the most viable path to a resounding victory.

“The NPP is sure to secure a resounding victory by anchoring our campaign on these transformative policies,” Hon. Agyemang posited.

He added that, “I am confident that when delegates vote on January 31, 2026, they will endorse this path forward.”
