Mr. Benjamin Badu Preko, Ashanti and Bono Ahafo Zonal Manager for the National Investment Bank (NIB), is advocating for strict punitive action against sanitation offenders.
He stated that while fining sanitation offenders is good, its impact is not as severe as culprit punishment.
“I think that the best way to punish sanitation offenders is to make them sweep, weed, and clean gutters publicly and endlessly so that it will deter people from committing similar offenses,” he stated.
He made this call when he led about 20 staff members of the Bank to participate in a Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA)-organized clean-up exercise at Adum on Saturday, June 21, 2025.
The clean-up exercise was part of preparations for the royal visit of King Mswati III, Head of State and Kingdom of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II from June 24-28, 2025.
Mr. Badu Preko added that it’s high time the Ghanaian public changed their attitude and became environmentally conscious to keep the environment clean.
“We at the NIB see environmental cleaning and sanitation exercises as a national duty, hence our desire to participate fully in this clean-up exercise,” he stated.
He therefore called on well-meaning members of Ghanaian society to turn out in large numbers to participate in sanitation exercises to keep the environment clean and safe.
