The Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Atwima Nwabiagya South Constituency, Maxwell Acheampong, led a clean-up exercise at the abandoned Afari Military Hospital.
Supported by Afari and Akrofrom branch executives, the exercise, which was undertaken on Tuesday, January 6, aimed to draw the government’s attention to the unfinished project.
The 500-bed hospital facility, initiated during President Mahama’s previous administration, was supposed to be operational in 2018 but remains incomplete.
Upon completion, the project will ease pressure on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
In February 2025, former Defence Minister Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah promised completion in September 2026 when he paid a courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, after a visit to the project site.
Maxwell Acheampong expressed confidence that the government’s attention would be drawn to the facility and it would be completed this year.
Akwasi Prince, also known as Akwasi NDC, stated that the clean-up was a community-driven initiative to remind the government of its commitment.
The project area was overgrown with bushes, and the party faithfuls hoped the exercise would prompt government action .
