ABASS NURUDEEN, the Ashanti Regional Communications Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the 4 day tour of President Akufo-Addo to Ashanti was an empty one.
Addressing the media Thursday morning on behalf of Ashanti NDC, the law student said the President only rushed to show face in the NPPs stronghold.
He noted that after series of demonstrations against his government in the handling of the economy and illegal mining, the President decided to test the grounds to see if he was still popular.
“Unfortunately the results of the 4 day tour has been abysmal with residents showing discontent to the President in his handling of the challenges confronting them and no wonder he was booed by Kejetia traders”, Mr Nurudeen stated.
Details:
The NDC communications officer said it was demeaning to find the President travel with 77 V8 vehicles to commission a small court complex at Toase.
He also noted that it was a low point to see the President claim credit for the construction of the Asante Akim Central government hospital which was started by John Mahama, the former President.
According to the NDC spokesperson in Ashanti, the sod cutting ceremony for the 4 tier interchange for the people of Suame by the President is only a face saving one since evetu shows work would not start for the people to even wait for its completion.
“For the President to drive in such unimaginable convoy of cars and commission a small prohecta including the Toase court complex shows the mediocre attitude of this government and it is least surprising to see the frustrated President talk down on the people of Kwabre for insisting their roads should be fixed”, Mr Nurudeen stated.
Alternative:
The NDC regional officer has meanwhile assured residents of Ashanti that the NDC under John Mahama will treat them well.
He noted that projects like the Sewua and Afari hospitals which has stalled would be completed and made ready for use.
Mr Nurudeen stated that the next John Mahama government would deal with the economic challenges confronting Ghanaians and restore confidence in the cedi.
“The next John Mahama government would deal with challenges facing us as a country and stem the illegal mining whose kingpin is the NPP regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Bosiako”, the NDC officer stated.
