The respondents settled on Napo because they see him as being overly popular, marketable, able to face the opposition NDC boot-for-boot, a known party faithful and some who understands the grassroots, generous and very kind.

Methodology

The research team led by Hayford Mensah Ayerakwa, used two weeks period from May 13th to May 26th, 2024, to conduct the survey in 60 constituencies all the 16 regions in the country, with the respondents randomly selected.

“A total of 60 constituencies out of the 275 were sampled for the study, representing about 22% of all constituencies in Ghana”, part of the findings from the researchers pointed out.

They disclosed that “in each sampled polling station, a total of three NPP polling station executives were randomly selected and interviewed. This gave a total of 720 polling station level interviews.

“An additional four first-time voters (2 male and 2 female were possible) in each selected polling station were sampled to respond to the questions.

“This is, data from 960 first-time voters were collected as part of this survey. The total sample for our analysis was 1,980 respondents”, adding, Napo, was the obvious choice of the respondents to partner Dr. Bawumia to break the eight.

Survey Results

In all, ten potential running mates in the NPP were considered in the findings and Napo, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia South, secured a whopping 70 percent approval to top the survey.

Significantly, Napo scored very high on all the indicators including popularity and marketability of the candidate (81%), someone who could face the NDC boot for boot (78%), someone who understands grassroot politics (78%), and a known party faithful (71%).

The Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, placed second with 10%, followed by Yaw Osei Adutwum, 9%, Henry Kwabena Kokofu, 7.4%, Bryan Acheampong, 1.2, Naa Toshie Addo, 1%, Joseph Osei Owusu, 0.6%, Asamoah Boateng, 0.4% and Prof. Mrs. Rita. Akosua Dickson, 0.4%, in that order.

Key advise

The research group admonished that if the NPP is to break the eight, “it is recommended that they pay attention to first time voters and consolidate the potential votes that will come from the population”.

They also advised that elections are won at the polling station levels so the party leadership should consider the choice of the grassroot members in selecting a running mate to partner Dr. Bawumia since they (grassroots) would would be campaigning for the party.

As a reminder, Napo has topped similar surveys, conducted by other credible research groups in the country lately, regarding the perfect choice as running for Dr. Bawumia to help the NPP to break the eight on December 7.
