Story
THE LATE Asantehemaa, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, has been posthumously honoured.
An ultramodern library project in the Manhyia South Constituency in Kumasi has been named after her.
It is the brainchild of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo’, the MP for Manhyia South Constituency.
The one-storey library project, stocked with different types of books, is to help promote education.
Napo said the late Asante Queen played a key role to promote education in Asanteman and Ghana.
He said the honour was aimed at motivating others to contribute their quota to help promote education.
The library has 200 seating capacity, 10,000 books, and 36 computers which are connected to free internet.
Napo urged the youth in his Constituency and Kumasi in general to make good use of the library.
The Manhyia South MP said education can help bridge the gap between the rich and the poor.
Napo, therefore, admonished the youth to learn seriously in order to become influential in future.
The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was the last born of Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.
Significantly, Nana Ama Konadu III, the sitting Asante Queen, was the first born of the late Queen.
Nana Ama Konadu III officially cut the tape to open the library during a colourful ceremony on Sunday.
She was assisted by Napo and some top traditional leaders in Asanteman and officials of the GES.
Nana Owusu Afriyie IV, the Otumfuo Apagyahene, and Nana Kwaku Duah, Kokosohene were present.
Hayford Siaw, the Executive Director of the Ghana Library Authority, praised Napo for promoting education.
Prof. Opoku Amankwa, GES Director-General and his deputy, Dr Kwabena Tandoh were also there.
Also in attendance was Ing Nana Poku Agyeman, the Kumasi Urban Roads Director and others.
Ofosu Frimpong, the Ashanti Regional Director, Ghana Library Authority also graced the event.
