Mobile Money Limited, in partnership with MTN Ghana, recently hosted its annual Partners’ Awards Ceremony to celebrate 200 outstanding collaborators across the Ashanti, Bono, Ahafo, and Bono East regions.
Beyond the accolades, the event served as a platform to announce transformative security measures designed to fortify Ghana’s mobile money ecosystem against fraud.
The ceremony recognized the indispensable contributions of agents, merchants, technology partners, and partner banks.
These stakeholders have been the cornerstone of MTN MoMo’s growth, resilience, and long-term sustainability.
General Manager:
Speaking to the press, Mr. Nii Adotey Mingle, General Manager for MTN Ghana’s Northern Sector, emphasized that the awards reflect a deliberate strategy to appreciate partners who have remained steadfast in the brand’s journey.
“The milestones achieved by Mobile Money Limited are rooted in strong collaboration, mutual trust, and unwavering dedication,” Mr. Mingle stated.
He described the awardees as the “backbone” of the company’s operations and the primary drivers of its leadership in the digital financial services sector.
Highlights of the Awards:
200 partners were honored from the middle belt of Ghana.
Element of Surprise:
While several categories were public, many recipients were surprised on stage to heighten the prestige of the event.
Prizes:
The overall best performers received GH₵20,000 in cash, while other category winners received GH₵5,000, accompanied by plaques and citations.
Fintech Innovation:
Mr. Mingle also outlined a broader vision for the industry, revealing that Mobile Money Limited is collaborating with the Government of Ghana to nurture the local fintech space.
This includes plans to sponsor emerging startups to accelerate industry-wide innovation and align Ghana’s digital economy with global standards.
Regarding service reliability, he reassured the public that the MoMo platform remains robust.
He noted that the company maintains a close working relationship with security agencies to ensure rapid, independent responses to emerging cyber threats.
Security Alert:
Mr. Mingle reminded customers that the only official MTN customer care number is 0244-300000.
He urged subscribers to never disclose their MoMo PIN to anyone, regardless of the claims made by a caller.
Action Against Fraud:
To further sanitize the network, Mr. Abdul-Majeed Rufai, Senior Manager of Commercial Mobile Money, announced a nationwide re-registration exercise for all agents.
This move follows reports of “ghost” identities, where some agents used third-party details for transactions, and cases where previously blacklisted individuals attempted to re-enter the system under aliases.
The re-registration aims to purge the network of fraudulent actors and ensure only verified, compliant agents remain.
QR Codes and Privacy:
In a significant shift toward customer privacy, Mr. Rufai disclosed that MTN MoMo will overhaul its cash-out process starting in 2026.
The Issue:
Fraudsters often “shoulder surf” at agent points to memorize customer phone numbers for later scams.
The Solution:
MTN will transition to a system using QR codes and unique Agent IDs.
The Result:
Customers will no longer need to speak their phone numbers aloud. Instead, they will simply scan a code or enter an ID to complete their transaction securely.
Voices of the Partners
Award recipients expressed their gratitude, noting that the recognition serves as a powerful motivator.
Many shared that the awards reinforce their commitment to providing high-quality service and driving financial inclusion within their local communities.
