Officials of MTN Ghana on Boxing Day presented 600 specially packaged hampers for babies born on Christmas day at selected hospitals in the 16 regions of the country.
This initiative, began by MTN Ghana in 2011, has been sustained and as at now, about 3,500 hampers have been delivered to children born on Christmas day.
Speaking to the media after distributing hmapers to 22 children born on Christmas day at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Mrs Charity Darko, Corporate Affairs Manager at MTN Northern Business District said 30 hospitals had been selected for the nationwide deliveries.
In the Northern Sector, Mrs Darko said 260 hampers which contain detergents, diapers, toys, babies clothes as well as light toiletries were being delivered to babies born on Christmas day.
“As part of our corporate social responsibility we donate to babies born on Christmas day and this year we are distributing 600 hampers in 30 hospitals across Ghana concurrently, and this number is hundred hampers higher than what MTN did last year. We want to put smiles on the faces of mothers and babies born on Christmas day by this gesture”, Mrs Darko stated.
Nurse Manager:
Speaking to the media, Madam Gifty Serwaah Adu, Nurse Manager at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department at KATH thanked MTN officials for the gesture.
She dislosed that the 22 babies born on 25 and 26th December at KATH were delivered normally with no casualties.
Madam Adu however asked for support for mothers at the maternity wards, adding that many struggle to pay bills after delivering their babies.
“Just as MTN Ghana has since 2011 shown the way, we appeal to other corporate organisations to also visit the maternity wards and help mothers pay for their care and deliveries since many continue to struggle to pay here”, the Nurse Manager appealed.
Beneficiaries:
Dorothy Ameyaa, mother of one of the baby girls delivered at KATH expressed happiness at the gesture..
“I was taken to the labour ward to deliver on the evening of 25th December and by God’s grace i did so normally. So waking up to see this hamper from MTN Ghana fills me with excitement knowing i have something to clean my baby”, Ms Ameyaa stated.
Madam Rosemary Appiah-Kubi, another nursing mother who had given birth at KATH said she was happy to have delivered on the 25th.
“I am so happy to have my baby healthy and have the opportunity to receive this beautiful baby hamper for my girl. I bless MTN Ghana as well as the doctors and nurses at KATH”, Madam Appiah-Kubi said.
