Mayors of Kumasi, Praia Sign Sister City Pact For Mutual Benefits

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the City of Praia in Cape Verde have signed a sister city agreement to explore mutual opportunities and benefits. 

The brief ceremony took place in Kumasi on Wednesday June 26, 2024, with the mayors of both cities in attendance.

The agreement aims to enhance commerce, culture, tourism, and climate adaptation between the two cities.

Kumasi Mayor:

According to Hon. Samuel Pyne, Mayor of Kumasi, the collaboration is crucial for rapid development.

He noted that both cities share a vision of promoting socio-economic development for their inhabitants.

Mayor of Praia:

Hon. Francisco Carvalho, Mayor of Praia, emphasized the importance of taking practical steps to make the sister city relations mutually beneficial and impactful.

He expressed optimism that the collaboration will yield significant benefits for both cities in the future.

Other Details:

The signing ceremony was also attended by international dignitaries, including H.E Mrs. Paqui Momparler, President of Mancomunitat de la Ribera Alta (MANRA); Mr. Francis Dwira-Darko, Metro Coordinating Director of KMA; Nadir Delgado, Local Project Coordinator of HORESD, Praia.

Others were Mr. Joshua Tetteh-Nortey, Local Project Coordinator of HORESD, Kumasi; Mr. Victor Rey, Communication Manager of MANRA; and Mr. Helder Moriera, International Project Coordinator of HORESD.

Background:

The sister city agreement is an outcome of the successful collaboration between MANRA, the City of Praia, and the KMA on the Holistic Reinforcement for Sustainable Development (HORESD) project, funded by the European Union.
