THE KROFROM market project in Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region, which has been stalled for so many years now, will finally be completed by President John Mahama.
This firm assurance was given by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Frank Amoakohene, when he was addressing victims of the Blue Light Market fire at Adum.
There were wild rumours in Kumasi that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, led by President Mahama, wanted to build a new market at the Blue Light.
This speculation, which has been spreading like wildfire across Kumasi and the Ashanti Region in general, reportedly, sparked anger among victims of the Blue Light fire outbreak.
The affected traders, most of whom at energetic youth, threatened to put their lives on the line to resist any attempt by the government to forcibly take the market from them.
But addressing the fire victims, Dr. Amoakohene, without mincing words, stated emphatically that there is no iota of truth in the rumours so it should be treated with contempt.
The government, he said, has not completed the Krofrom and Central Market projects, which are two leading market spots in the city, so they can’t start another market in Kumasi.
“We haven’t been able to complete the Krofrom and Central Market projects so we can’t start another market project in the city. The rumours are palpable false”, he openly declared.
Dr. Amoakohene stated “the president is determined to complete the Krofrom and Central Market (Kejetia Phase 2) projects in order to boost business activities in the city”.
The Ashanti Regional Minister reiterated that the government is not interested in taking the Blue Light Market from the fire victims and make them jobless as it’s being speculated.
He therefore entreated the Blue Light Market fire victims to patronize the ongoing registration exercise, which is being done for the fire victims, so they could be supported.
“The registration exercise is free and it’s being done as part of processes to get you back into business at the Blue Light Market so please make yourself available”, he admonished.
Dr. Amoakohene also announced that an Asante man, who doesn’t want to be named, has donated Gh 500,000 to support the fire victims, notably widows and single parents.
He said President Mahama has directed NADMO to properly assess the level of destruction caused by the devastating inferno so he could also assist the hundreds of fire victims.
