Speaking at the 29th GJA Media Awards held at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi last Saturday, President Mahama expressed his government’s commitment to tackling the menace of galamsey, describing it as a tough battle.

“We are going to give 1,500 cedis as monthly as stipend to our youth who will take part in afforestation efforts,” Mahama announced, emphasizing the need to restore degraded forests and protect the environment.

President Mahama acknowledged the devastating impact of galamsey on Ghana’s environment and economy, and admitted that the task confronting government in combating the scourge was very hectic and complex.

Despite the challenges, he reaffirmed his government’s determination to fight galamsey, recognizing the need for concerted efforts to address the issue.
