The Metropolitan Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has appealed for a concerted effort towards greening and sustaining the future of the Kumasi city.
The appeal was made during his address to launch Phase 2 of the KMA/Bloomberg Philanthropies Youth Climate Action Fund (YCAF) on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
The launch of YCAF Phase 2, thanks to a globally reputable climate change campaign, also coincided with World Earth Day.
The Mayor of Kumasi used the occasion to drum home the need for shared responsibility to maintain a green environment.
“This day serves as a significant reminder of our shared responsibility to nurture the environment, combat climate change, and foster sustainable practices within our community.
Let’s strive to towards a greener and a more sustainable future for the city of Kumasi”, he stated.
He therefore entreated the public, particularly the youth, to remain united in the quest to protect the Earth for future generations.
About 26 out of 54 youth groups aged 15-24 that submitted their proposals to combat climate change have been selected by the KMA, which has received an additional $100,000 from Bloomberg Philanthropies for Phase 2 of the YCAF.
Based on their proposals, these groups will be given a microgrant ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to implement their projects within six months.
