Former National Youth Organiser aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Michael Osei Boateng popularly known as “Pope” says the party should work immediately to amend portions of its Constitution to allow all card bearing members to vote.
Speaking on radio, the former aspirant said every card bearing member should be part of the decision making process of the NPP.
Other Issues:
Mr Osei Boateng also expressed surprise at the parliamentary results with the NDC winning majority seats of 188 across Ghana.
He indicated that even the NDC knew the NPP would win majority seats in Parliament.
He therefore wondered how the reverse became the case after polls closed on December 7.
“Our candidates worked so hard to help secure majority seats but the reverse is the case as the NPP can only boast of 88 seats in the 9th Parliament”, Pope bemoaned.
Panacea:
Mr Osei Boateng said the NPPs electoral defeat could be attributed to many reasons including how it handled its internal elections.
He said having lost the 2008 general elections, the NPP decided to open up its delegates system, but failed to do same after winning the 2017 elections, he added.
Currently, he said the party could stop the monetization of the system by opening the delegates system up to allow all card bearing members to vote and also take decisions for the party during its internal elections.
“I know the Prof Mike Ocquaye review committee is going about its work and are yet to bring its findings but as a stakeholder and member of the NPP i believe we can restructure our delegates system to the point that we can even use same to strategize for national elections since we will know our strengths in polling stations across the country” Mr Osei Boateng stated.
