Samuel Pyne, Mayor for Kumasi has appealed to members of the governing NPP to be calm while dealing with the effects of the electoral defeat of December 7.
The Mayor noted that many just like him did not anticipate such a heavy fall hence the hurtful feelings some have been displaying publicly.
However, the Mayor asked NPP members that rather than public insults and accusations they display cool heads so that the issues that are coming out could be addressed for a forward march.
Speaking to this reporter over the weekend, Hon Pyne admitted that defeat is always difficult to deal with than victory.
Appeal:
The Mayor advised party members to use the party structures to raise issues.
He noted that the use of radio stations and public spaces to vent displeasure and anger had little effect to getting the issues addressed.
The NPP, Hon Pyne stated does not shun or stop people from venting their opinions and displeasure about issues.
“As a democrat i would advise party members to use decent language to speak to their respective leaders at the polling, constituency and regional levels about what they find was a contributory factor to the party’s electoral defeat”, Hon Pyne admonished.
Forward March:
Hon Pyne said the NPP leadership would sit and discuss all issues raised and identified to have played a role in the party’s defeat on December 7.
He mentioned that this would enable the party to take steps in addressing the issues.
The NPP, he stressed would also take time to work out a plan to reach out to its members so that it can restructure, regroup as well as work to recapturing power in 2028.
“We failed to win power in 1992 and in the 1996 elections but we won power in 2000 and 2004. We also won power in 2016 and 2020 and this shows that with diligence and proper restructuring we can bounce back and win power in 2028”, the Mayor narrated.
