Kwame Poku’s Late Heroics Secure FA Cup Win for Kotoko

Less than 1 minute Minutes

Kwame Poku scored two important goals, one of which was a late-minute spot kick to secure Kumasi Asante Kotoko’s victory in the 2024/25 FA Cup grand finale match against Golden Kicks SC on Sunday June15, 2025 at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Kotoko’s goal-scorer Kwame Poku opened the scoring in the 16th minute, but Bless Ege’s breathtaking free kick in the 31st minute equalized for the Accra-based Division One side.

Despite the wet pitch, both clubs displayed skills and maintained high-quality possession, wasting goal-scoring opportunities and ending the first half in a 1-1 draw.

It was an intense affair right from the start of the second half, with both sides showing glimpses of quality play and determination to win the trophy.

Kotoko’s coach, Abdul Karim Zito, and his opponent, Fiifi Parker Hanson, made a couple of substitutions in the second half to keep the game’s tempo high.

The “talking point” of the entertaining grand finale of the FA Cup was the penalty call by CAF-licensed referee Selorm Yao Bless in favor of Kwame Poku 2 minutes into the 5-minute additional time.

After barely three minutes of protest by Golden Kicks players and officials, Kotoko’s striker intriguingly converted the penalty to gift his side its 10th FA Cup glory.

Kotoko won their ninth FA Cup in 2017 when they humiliated Accra Hearts of Oak by 3-1 in Tamale.

With their current FA Cup triumph, Kotoko has booked a ticket to compete in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup.
