Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, a former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and presidential aspirant for the 2028 elections, is urging the party leadership to organize a debate among candidates.
This debate, he suggests, would inform delegates’ choices and promote a values-driven campaign focused on substantive national issues.
Mr. Agyepong, who served as Press Secretary to former President John Agyekum Kufuor, believes a debate will enable delegates to assess candidates’ visions for Ghana and the party.
“Let’s have a proper debate. Let’s elevate the discourse. That’s what’s important,” he said.
By submitting themselves to a debate, presidential candidates will shift the focus from popularity contests to ideas and policy-based discussions, promoting unity and cohesion within the party.
He opined that as their contest becomes a contest of ideas and views on national issues, the political atmosphere in the party, which is currently poisoned, could be changed.
