Kumasi needs €600m to tackle daily 3,000 tonnes of refuse

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, admits that sanitation remains one of the most pressing challenges facing the city, attributing it to insufficient disposal sites.

According to him, the city generates approximately 3,000 tonnes of waste daily, yet lacks sufficient disposal sites.

He told the media at a press soirée on Thursday, January 15, that an estimated €600 million would be required to establish additional waste disposal facilities to effectively manage the growing volumes of refuse.

Emphasizing the importance of cleanliness to economic growth, Mr. Ofori Boadi stated that a clean city is essential for attracting investors.

“No investor would want to invest in a dirty city,” he said, adding that sanitation remains a top priority for the Assembly.

He reiterated his call on the media to support the Assembly by educating the public on its programs and policies, stressing that collective effort is needed to build a safe, smart, and investment-friendly Kumasi.
