A brief but momentous ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the forecourt of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) for Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, the new Mayor of Kumasi to begin official work.
Significantly, before assuming official duty, the Mayor of Kumasi was decorated with the Mayor’s Chain of Office, made from pure gold, and given a Guard of Honour by the Metro Guards.
Upon arrival at the Assembly’s administration block at 10am, the Mayor was met by the Metro Coordinating Director, Mr Francis Dwira-Darko, who presented him with the Mayor’s Chain of Office.
Uaddara Basic School cadets performed the ‘Yɛn ara asaase ni’ song for Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, who was flanked by Mr Dwira-Darko and WO2 Kwabena Addo, head of security, to inspect the guard of honour.
Addressing the guard after inspection, the Mayor of Kumasi advised the metro guards to build public confidence and maintain order in the central business district (CBD) of Kumasi.
He told the guards that there’s congestion in the CBD but would require discipline and dedicated guards to maintain order.
He pledged his full support to the guards, adding that he’s ready to share ideas with them to make the CBD and Kumasi as whole a better place.
Ofori-Agyeman Boadi exchanged pleasantries with heads of department, units, and agencies, and was formally welcomed before moving to his office to begin work.
