Kumasi Mayor seeks solutions to basic education challenges

The Kumasi Mayor, Honourable Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, convened a maiden gathering with key stakeholders in basic education on July 25, 2025.

This meeting, which brought together head teachers, representatives of the Parent-Teachers Association (PTA), Assembly members, staff of the Metro Education Office, and others from the five sub-metros, purposely to explore strategies for enhancing the sector.

During the meeting, the Mayor reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritizing education as part of its broader agenda to revitalise Ghana.

He highlighted several areas of focus, including upgrading school infrastructure, fostering a supportive learning environment, and motivating teachers.

In furtherance, he solicited innovative ideas from the stakeholders to guide the Assembly’s future policy decisions on education.

The Metro Director of Education, Mr. David Oppong, expressed gratitude to the Mayor for creating a platform for open discussion and collaboration.

He also underscored some pressing challenges facing the education sector, including encroachment on school lands, inadequate sanitation facilities, insufficient security personnel, and a shortage of furniture in schools.

Participants, predominantly heads of basic schools, took turns sharing their ideas and challenges with the Mayor.

They also joined the Metro Director of Education in thanking the Mayor for allowing them to share valuable information about education in the metropolis.
