Kumasi Mayor Bares Teeth on School Lands Encroachers, Orders Eviction

Less than 1 minute Minutes

Extremely worried by the extent of encroachment on school lands under his watch, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has with immediate effect ordered the eviction of encroachers from all schools.

Consequently, a notice is hereby served to the public, especially individuals, entities, and religious bodies that have encroached on school lands, to vacate the premises immediately.

The Mayor’s directive comes on the heels of an ongoing tour of basic schools under his jurisdiction, which began on July 30, 2025, where an unbearable spectacle of scenes left him no option but to crack the whip.

These encroachers and squatters are using school lands for shelter, trading, cargo stations, drug peddling, mechanic work, sanitation, and religious purposes, inter alia, which sharply deviate from the intended use of the lands and obstruct academic work.

Apart from the security, moral, and sanitation concerns, noise pollution from encroachers on school lands is a great source of worry for city authorities.

The Mayor has therefore ordered personnel from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Physical Planning, and the Works Department to oversee the eviction of all encroachers on school lands swiftly.

Hon. Agyeman Boadi is accompanied by Mr. Francis Dwira Darko, Metro Coordinating Director; Mr. David Oppong, Metro Director of Education; and other heads of departments and units on his tour of schools.

His team visited the Asem Cluster of Schools and the Amankwatia Cluster of Schools, Dichemso M/A Cluster of Schools, State Boys Cluster of Schools, State Girls M/A and Junior High School.

Other schools also visited were Bantama Methodist Primary School and New Bantama M/A Primary School.

In all the schools, assembly members, headteachers, staff of the Ghana Education Service (GES), and other stakeholders were present to welcome the Mayor and his team and share their thoughts and ideas with them.
