The Ghana Football Association (GFA) should permit Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko to play their home league matches late in the evening to increase patronage.
The two most glamorous clubs in Ghana have experienced low attendance at their home matches for nearly a decade.
The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, a football enthusiast and die-hard Kotoko fan, suggests that the GFA should permit the two clubs to play their home matches late in the evening to increase attendance at stadiums.
According to the Mayor, economic and social activities in Accra and Kumasi make it challenging for most fans to attend 3 pm matches.
Ofori-Agyeman Boadi made the suggestion when Ashanti Regional Circles management, led by its chairman, Alexander Manu, paid him a visit in his office on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.
He promised the regional Circles leaders that he would lead the crusade to appeal to the GFA to consider the plight of the two most decorated clubs in Ghana to boost attendance at stadiums.
He added that increased patronage would enable the clubs to generate sufficient revenue from gate proceeds after their home matches.
Given the GFA’s mantra “Bring Back the Love,” implying that local people should support the domestic league, it is believed that the Mayor’s appeal would not be rejected by the GFA when he makes it official.
