THE MAYOR of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, aka ‘King Zuba,’ has promised to offer ¢1,000 to each member of the 30-man or more contingent if they win their Week 30 Ghana Premier League fixture against Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday.

In total, the Mayor will pay not less than ¢300,000 to Kotoko players and the technical team on Monday, May 5, if they beat their arch-rivals at their backyard.

He made the promise during his first official visit to Kotoko’s training ground at Adako-Jachie on Friday, May 2, 2025, coincidentally the Club’s last preparatory training ahead of their epic clash in the second round of the 2024/25 season.

King Zuba was joined by his personal assistant, Francis Dodovi, also a die-hard Kotoko supporter, during his visit.

Affirming his unwavering support for Kotoko, the Mayor donated $1,000 to the Club to support their preparation costs ahead of Sunday’s cliffhanger.

He urged the playing body to perform above expectations to ensure a resounding victory for their teeming supporters scattered across the globe.

The Mayor told the players that, as Kotoko is one of the greatest symbols of Asanteman and Otumfuo, he, as Mayor of Kumasi, owes it a duty to champion the Club’s interests at all times, especially when playing against Hearts of Oak.

“Every supporter of Kotoko is solidly behind you in prayer on Sunday, so go for victory,” he said.

The team manager of Kotoko SC, Henry Ohene Brenya, on behalf of the players and the technical team, thanked the Mayor for the visit, gift, and promise, pledging to deliver on Sunday.

The head of Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, told the Mayor that the club has set a target of 18 points and that their game against Hearts is no exception.

“We are all doing our best to win the remaining matches to meet our target,” he assured the Mayor.

Kotoko are currently fourth on the 2024/25 GPL log with 50 points, only three points behind the league leaders, while Hearts are seventh with 42 points.
