MOST OF the streets in the Kumasi Metropolis have been illuminated with streetlights at night just as promised by the Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi.
Few weeks ago, these same streets were in total darkness, especially during night hours, which as a result, created major security concerns in the Ashanti Regional capital.
Most of the residents of the city, including commercial drivers and those in charge of private cars, were even afraid to drive on those dark roads, fearing their cars would be snatched.
The darkness in the streets of Kumasi issue was widely discussed in the media in the city, prompting the Kumasi Mayor, who is nicknamed as ‘Zuba’, to promise to solve it.
The KMA Chief Executive then assured that he would make sure solar powered streetlights were erected at most of the principal streets in the city, which were looking dark.
According to him, the assembly was switching to solar powered streetlights because they have realized that some thieves were stealing cables of the old streetlights.
And just as Zuba promised, during Press1News’ tour in the city, most of the Kumasi streets were looking bright with the erection of streetlights.
The solar powered streetlights were especially seen on the road from the Lancaster Hotel to the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), which hitherto looked very dark in the night.
Other major roads in the city, including the one linking Adum, the Central Business District (CBD), to the Ridge Police Station area have also benefited from the streetlights.
Some of the drivers that spoke to Press1News openly showered tons of praises on the Kumasi Mayor, for delivering on his promise, urging him to sustain his splendid works.
