Kotoko’s late equaliser denies Medeama victory in Kumasi

Less than 1 minute

An injury-depleted Asante Kotoko SC came from two goals down to equalise 2-2 against Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on November 30.

Derick Fordjour opened the scoring for Medeama in the 5th minute, silencing the expectant home fans who were anxious for victory after shocking 2-1 lost to Basake Holy Stars last Wednesday.

Kotoko’s plight worsened when former defender Mubarik Yusiff increased the tally to two for the Mauve and Yellow lads after converting a penalty.

Medeama frustrated Kotoko and held the lead till halftime.

Determined to make amends, Kotoko, who played the match with only 11 senior team players in an 18-man squad due to the injury situation at the club, fought above themselves right from the start of the second half.

In the 69th minute, Peter Amidu Acquah pulled one back for Kotoko, who were eager to save face before their home fans.

Kotoko, who were pressing hard for an equaliser, heaved a sigh of relief when captain Gilbani Samba O’neil’s header in the 85th minute gave his side the much-desired level pegging.

The Porcupines kept up the pressure, but Medeama were resolute and refused to buckle under pressure, managing to return home with a point at the end of the match.
