Kotoko set to beef up squad for upcoming season

2 Minutes

Kumasi Asante Kotoko are set to beef up their squad ahead of the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup and domestic competitions.

So far, the Porcupine Warriors have signed Zakaria Fuseni and Hubert Gyau from Berekum Chelsea.

Walid Fuseni Neymar, formerly of Nsoatreman FC; Francis Acquah of Bechem United; Evans Osei Owusu of FC Samartex 1996; Charles Gyamfi Camara of Gold Stars; Kamaradini Mamudu of Medeama SC; and Bernardino Osah Tetteh of Medeama SC are on Kotoko’s radar for possible signing.

Reports suggest that the two-time African champions are also keen to sign three foreign players, although their destinations are not yet known.

Kotoko, a former powerhouse in African club championships, has for decades failed to live up to their billing due to multiple reasons.

The quality of players, team cohesion and consistency, quality technical staff, lack of standard training facilities, and adequate financial injections are the most common factors that have confronted the 24-time domestic league champions particularly in the last two decades.

However, the Interim Management Committee led by Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua is working hard to change the narrative and bring a smile to the Club’s Life Patron and Owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the teeming supporters scattered across the globe.

It will be recalled that Kotoko were finalists in 2002 (then Cup Winners’ Cup) and 2004 CAF Confederation Cup (maiden edition), losing to Wydad Athletic Club of Casablanca, Morocco, and Accra Hearts of Oak respectively.

Coincidentally, the two trophies were lost in Baba Yara Sports in Kumasi in an unpleasant and unpalatable spectacle difficult to be forgotten by members of the Kotoko fraternity.

Reports from the Club’s camp further suggest that the IMC, technical team, supporters’ leaders, and playing body are poised to rewrite history and make themselves proud in the upcoming season.
