In 2001, Kaiser Chiefs beat Kotoko 3-2 on penalties after a goalless draw to win the Vodafone Cup at the Kings Park Stadium in Durban.

Last year, South African giants lost 4-0 to Young Africans of Tanzania in the inaugural Toyota Cup at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein.

In his remarks at the launch of the second edition of the Toyota Cup at the Chief Village in Naturena on Thursday, June 26, Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkra Akwasi Awua, hinted that the Porcupine Warriors will be yelling for revenge against the Amakhosi after losing the Vodafone Cup in 2001.

Kotoko’s IMC chairman is confident that the match will provide the team with a sufficient test for the upcoming CAF Confederation Cup which both clubs will participate.

Jessica Motaug, Kaiser Chiefs’ Commercial and Marketing Director, expressed her delight in hosting the second edition of the Toyota Cup against Ghana’s 2024/25 FA Cup winners.

“We are proud and privileged to announce that we are playing Asante Kotoko from Ghana in this year’s edition of the Toyota Cup on July 26,” she stated.
