The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, has outlined the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) ambitious plans to enhance revenue collection, upgrade infrastructure, and promote sustainable development in the metropolis.
The proposals were presented at the 2nd Ordinary General Assembly Meeting of the 2nd Session of the 9th Assembly, held on October 27-28, 2025 at the Prempeh Assembly Hall.
Key initiatives, the Mayor hinted, include the introduction of Point of Sale (POS) devices for toll collection and the integration of property rate billing into the automated DLRev system to improve efficiency.
He stated the that, Assembly also aims to tackle counterfeit ticket printing and prioritise capital projects, including the management of Rattray Park.
To address squatter issues, he assured the KMA plans to evict unauthorized occupants near the Asafo Interchange and Railway areas, while beautification efforts will focus on removing structures near the Kumasi Sports Stadium and Bantama L/A. School.
He hinted that the Assembly has also made strides in public-private partnerships, handing over a site at Roman Hill for a commercial building and invited investors to develop a multi-storey car park in Adum.
“La Sama Ltd is set to develop shops and fence Bantama M/A and State Girls Schools”, he added.
Still on educational infrastructure, Hon. Agyeman Boadi said, the “KMA plans to consolidate Asem Cluster schools, redevelop derelict structures at Amankwatia and New Tafo M/A schools, and secure land for school expansion”.
“The KMA is also tackling security concerns, recommending stronger surveillance and inter-agency collaboration to address the increasing presence of foreign beggars on Kumasi streets”, the Mayor stated.
Other areas he highlighted include the relaunch of the National Sanitation Day, efforts to regulate traders and promote recycling, and support for youth and sports development.
The meeting was chaired by Presiding Member, Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, allowed assembly members the chance to deliberate extensively and approved the plan to enhance the development of Kumasi.
Also present were heads of departments, units, and agencies.
