Kumasi Mayor, Honourable Richard Ofori-Agyeman, understands that the role of the media cannot be underestimated in promoting local governance and development.
At a press soirée held on Thursday, January 15, at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly’s (KMA) Conference Room, the Mayor appealed to the media to stick to their critical role in educating residents on the Assembly’s development programs to ensure their smooth implementation.
He believed that effective public education by the media would help build understanding, cooperation, and shared responsibility among residents.
The Mayor mentioned major challenges confronting the metropolis, including a legacy debt of GH¢100 million, which was GH¢142 million when he assumed office in April 2025.
Additionally, he mentioned sanitation as one of the major headaches of the Assembly, attributing it to insufficient disposal sites.
Touting some successes in recent times, he disclosed that 240 solar streetlights have been installed across the metropolis to enhance night-time safety.
The Mayor revealed that, aside from the expansion of infrastructure in education, health, and roads in the metropolis, there are several major projects on the Assembly’s radar for execution in 2026.
He reiterated his call for unwavering support from the media and public to restore the city’s lost glory.
