Less than 1 minute Minutes

THE KUMASI Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and the Ghana Police Service are joining forces to ensure strict adherence to the newly approved transport fares in the city.

According to a statement released by the Office of the Mayor, Honourable Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, issued by the Public Relations Unit of KMA, some commercial drivers have refused to comply with the 15% reduction in transport fares.

The new fares were announced by the national leadership of transport unions, effective May 24, 2024.

To restore order and sanity on the city’s roads, the KMA and the Ghana Police Service will deploy officers to major roads in Kumasi to monitor and enforce adherence to the new fares.

“We kindly request the public’s cooperation in this endeavor as we strive to restore order and sanity on our roads.”

“We appreciate your understanding and support in this initiative.” it read.

The move is expected to bring relief to commuters who have been complaining about exorbitant transport fares.

The KMA has assured the public that the enforcement will be strict, and all commercial transport operators are expected to comply with the new fares.
