Kumasi Mayor, Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi alias ‘King Zuba’,and Ashanti Region Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, are on cloud nine following Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC’s victory over Accra Hearts of Oak on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The two famous political figures in the Ashanti Region, after celebrating Akwasidae with the Asante King, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace, quickly flew to Accra to cheer their beloved club to victory.
Kotoko beat their fierce rivals, Hearts of Oak, 2-1 to clinch the prestigious 2025 President’s Cup, organized by the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), at the Accra Sports Stadium, after being a goal down in the first half of an end-to-end action-packed match.
Hearts took the lead when Hamza Issah pounced on a goalkeeping blunder by Kotoko’s goalkeeper, Mohammed Camara, in the 27th minute of the match.
However, the FA Cup Champions responded positively to pep-talks by their gaffer, Abdul Karim Zito, by scoring two important quick goals in the early minutes of the second half through Peter Amidu Acquah and Kwame Poku to keep their trophy hopes alive.
Hearts failed to change the complexion of the match when Emmanuel Amankwah’s 80th-minute penalty was saved by Mohammed Camara.
Sounding optimistic about victory prior to the clash, the prominent political duo took time off their busy schedules to visit the club’s training grounds on Monday, June 30, and promised a cash prize and other winning packages for the playing body and technical team.
They have also promised to join the club in presenting the President’s Cup to the Life Patron of Asante Kotoko SC, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, possibly on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
The two political figures have further expressed their desire to support the club in their upcoming 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign, aiming to help the club regain its former glory.
