Following reports on the illegal activities of some unscrupulous persons with links to the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NDC, the management of the Kumasi City Market Limited (KCML), managers of the Kejetia Market on Wednesday demolished the unauthorised structures at the waste rooms in the market.
Visiting the scene Thursday evening, the metallic structures including the steel-like containers had been removed from its previous sites.
With only the concrete blocks showing during our visit, a source said everything would be removed by this weekend.
The illegal structure had been put up to ostensibly take in loads of items belonging to some of the traders but this was contrary to why the waste room was put up inside the market facility.
Additional Information:
Speaking to some trader unions in the market, they confirmed that the structure was taken down on Wednesday.
They wondered why despite the warning from the Mayor of Kumasi some persons with links to the management decided to erect those illegal structures.
Management Member:
On his part, Operations Manager of the Market, Prince Nyarko said management decided to take the structure down.
Backing his statement with some videos and pictures he took while the demolition was ongoing, Mr Nyarko said nothing of the sort will happen again.
Other investigations:
Meanwhile, there are reports that since the new management took office it has refused to fulfil some of its obligations to third party outfits that have contracts with KCML.
A source also hinted this reporter that since taking over the running of the washrooms and toilets from the previous company that was in charge, the management has not accounted for monies collected since January 17th.
Yours truly will publish the full report of the investigations by next week.
