Kejetia/Central Market Phase II to be completed in 2027

The Kejetia/Central market redevelopment project phase II is expected to be ready for use before the end of 2027.

Upon completion in 2027, the market is expected to accommodate thousands of traders and hawkers who currently trade on road shoulders and are exposed to the harsh sun in the central business districts(CBDs) of Kumasi.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive of Kumasi, Mr. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi, made the assurance in a meeting with the regional executives of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) in his office on Tuesday, June 10, 2025.

He further assured that work on the market will resume in earnest in July 2025 to meet the new deadline for completion of the project.

He reassured the government’s commitment to completing phase II of the market project to boost public trust and business in Kumasi.

As part of measures to ensure fulfillment of the government’s promise, he said he has met with the consultant and contractor for the project, pending receipt of funds from the government to continue work earnestly.

Additionally, he announced that he has discussed the completion of the Krofrom Market with the President, anticipating that when completed, it would ease congestion in the CBDs.

The Mayor re-echoed his advice for the business community to take advantage of the “Kumasi Business Connect” event, scheduled for November 7-9, 2025, in Kumasi, to boost their businesses and create jobs.

“Those within the business ecosystem who are into real estate, tourism, agribusiness, creative arts industry, hospitality, finance, among other sectors, should take advantage of the ‘Kumasi Business Connect’ event to grow their businesses,” he advised.

The regional executives of GUTA, led by Mr. Anthony Kwaku Oppong, visited the Mayor’s office to welcome him to his new role.

Mr. Kwaku Oppong, on behalf of GUTA executives, pledged their support to help him succeed in his tenure and appealed for the Mayor and government’s continuous support to enhance their businesses.
