The Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah has affirmed his commitment together with management to make the hospital the most patient-friendly facility in Ghana.
Speaking at the second edition of KATH’s senior and consultants consultative forum in Kumasi, Prof Addai-Mensah said the new agenda of the hospital is to ensure that staff and workers provide quality service to visitors and patients at all times.
The CEO noted that the consultative forum was therefore created to consciously seek the inputs and commitment of Senior Specialists and Consultants in making KATH a true centre of excellence in the delivery of specialist clinical care and training.
“The New KATH Agenda is to make the hospital the most patient-friendly facility in the country through the provision of specialist and sub-specialist services that meet and even exceed the expectations of our clients”, the CEO stated.
Charge:
The CEO said to achieve the target of making KATH most friendly facility it would require a commitment from all staff and workers.
He also noted that specialists and consultants at KATH must be willing to advance patient-centered specialised healthcare and operate with excellence at the hospital.
“We cannot achieved our target without you because as Senior Specialists and Consultants, you represent the pillars upon which specialist and sub-specialist care are delivered and clinical innovations are developed at this hospital”, Prof Addai-Mensah stressed.
The CEO also stated that senior specialists and consultants are the automatic leaders and initiators of specialist care services, mentors, innovators and promoters of the culture of continuous learning that identifies gaps in services and implement sustainable solutions that result in enhanced service outputs.
Strides:
The CEO said KATH remains committed to making optimum use of its internally generated funds.
He noted that currently, KATH has in its stock 13 dialysis machines to treat renal patients.
This, the CEO said has helped to more than triple the number of dialysis sessions delivered at the hospital from 80 per month to over 300 now.
“The hospital has just received two new dialysis machines from the Ghana Airport Company Limited while four new ones bought by the hospital from its IGF at the cost of Ghc2.8m are expected to be added by the close of the month to bring the total number of machines to 13”, Prof Addai-Mensah disclosed.
NHIS:
Speaking as the special guest at the consultative forum, Acting NHIA CEO, Dr Dacosta Aboagye commended KATH for showing the way forward to delivering quality healthcare.
He promised to push for the retooling of the KATH renal unit with more dialysis machines to attend to its patients.
Dr Dacosta also stated the commitment of his outfit to pay claims of health facilities operating under the NHIS.
“Unlike previously where the NHIA owed health facilities on their claims for several months and years, this government has ensured that it resourced me to pay claims brought to my desk so that these facilities could play their roles in giving quality care to citizens of Ghana”, Dr Dacosta stated.
