In a gesture that delighted both organizers and participants, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), made a surprise appearance at the health walk preceding the launch of the highly anticipated 2026 Asokwa Homecoming Summit.
A Hero’s Welcome
The atmosphere at the Bulldog Pub—a well-known landmark near the Kumasi Sports Stadium—was electric as early as 6:00 AM.
As patrons gathered for the day’s activities, JFK arrived to thunderous applause and chants of “The General” and “Okumkom.”
Clad in the official Asokwa Homecoming T-shirt, the General Secretary joined the crowd to lead the procession through the streets of Kumasi.
Route and Community Response:
The walk followed a scenic route starting from the Stadium, passing through the Asokwa Mall and KFC streets, and extending toward the Consar Limited stretch.
The General Secretary’s presence acted as a magnet for the community as many residents paused their morning routines to join the ever-growing column of walkers.
Notable participants included:
Nana Fe-Baamoah, Regent of Asokwa.
Representatives from the Asokwa and Manhyia Traditional Authorities.
Honourable Amoh Kamel, Asokwa MCE.
Nana Yaw Wiredu, Asokwa PM and the two elected Assembly Members of Asokwa New and old town, Oscar Riches and Akwasi Appiah.
The Elite Group of Asokwa and various professional associations.
Health Screening and Vital Checks
After three hours of walking to the rhythm of brass band music and mobile sound systems, the group returned to the starting point.
To emphasize the importance of health, JFK led by example by undergoing a medical screening.
He was joined in the vitals check by Dr. Francis Adomako (NPP Regional Organiser), as well as Keskine Owusu Poku and Lawyer Nana Kyeretwie, both of whom are vying for Ashanti Regional executive positions.
Vision for Development:
Speaking to the press, Lawyer Kodua expressed his unwavering support for initiatives that harness both human and material resources for community growth.
“The Asokwa Homecoming Summit is a vital platform for driving development within this elite Kumasi community,” Kodua remarked, adding that he is committed to any project that elevates the potential of the people.
Dr. Francis Adomako, a member of the planning committee, clarified that the funds raised during this launch are earmarked for the main summit next year.
He noted that the ultimate goal is to foster entrepreneurship and provide scholarships for higher education among Asokwa residents.
Financial Contributions
The spirit of communal support was evident through several high-profile donations:
Madam Patricia Appiagyei (MP for Asokwa): GHS 10,000.
Justin Frimpong Kodua (NPP General Secretary): GHS 10,000.
Francis Adomako (regional organiser of NPP) Ghc 2,000.
Various local groups and professional bodies also made significant contributions toward the 2026 main event.
