GPL title race heats up: Nations FC leads the pack

Less than 1 minute Minutes

Mathematically, the Abrankese-based Nations FC stands a good chance of winning the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.

After defeating Accra Lions 4-1 in Accra on Monday, May 19, 2024, they currently tops the league log with 57 points, followed by Bibiani Gold Stars with 56 points, Hearts of Lions with 54 points, and Kotoko with 54 points.

Nations FC will host FC Samartex 1996 at home in Abrankese, play away against Basake Holy Stars in Azulewanu, and end the season with a home match against league contenders Hearts of Lions.

With their impressive home record, playing two of their last three fixtures at their fortress in Abrankese, the league title seems within their grasp.

However, one cannot underestimate the uncertainties in football, and teams like second-placed Bibiani Gold Stars, third-placed Hearts of Lions, and fourth-placed Kotoko still have a chance.

In their last three fixtures, Gold Stars will host Kotoko in Bibiani in a match described as ‘fit for the gods,’ visit Berekum to play against Berekum Chelsea, and end the season against Accra Lions in Bibiani.

Hearts of Lions will also play away against Young Apostles in Wenchi, host Bechem United in Kpando, and end the season against Nations FC in Abrankese.

Kotoko’s hope of winning the league for 25th time is not entirely lost, considering the 3-point gap between them and the league leaders.

Despite having a crucial match against Gold Stars in Bibiani, Kotoko aims to take all the nine points from their games against Medeama SC in Kumasi, and Vision FC in Tema.
