In the near future, congestion at Bohyen Basic School in Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) will be a thing of the past, thanks to the start of a 12-unit classroom block for Ampabame Basic School.
The 12-unit classroom block, funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), will be executed by K. Sarmad Limited at a cost of 3,495,774.00 Ghana cedis.
Work is expected to commence by August 15, 2025, and be completed within the next 12 months, as per plan.
It could be recalled that, City authorities intentionally moved Ampabame school to Bohyen to create space for the construction of an Agenda 111 hospital facility.
This arrangement has increased enrollment at Bohyen Basic School and caused congestion in the school, hence the need for a new school project to improve quality education in the area.
The GETFund, originally, approved two separate 12-unit classroom blocks, one for Kotei in the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly and one for Adomanu Basic School in the KMA, but the location for the latter was changed as a result of a needs assessment.
Mr. Ibrahim Frimpong, an architect at Amalgamated Group, a consultant firm for the GETFund project, at a brief handing-over site ceremony on Friday, August 1, 2025, urged the contractor to execute the project to perfection and within the specified timeframe, considering its urgent need.
He assured that there will be a monthly monitoring team alongside a clerk of works to ensure quality work is done.
Judith Mensah Bamford, Head of the Planning Unit at the Kumasi Metro Education Directorate, on behalf of the Metro Director of Education, told the contractor and consultant that the school project is badly needed to boost teaching and learning.
“We need superb work to be done,” she requested.
Hon. Emmanuel Fosu Frimpong, Assembly member for the Bohyen Electoral Area, expressed his delight at seeing the construction of the school, noting it will address the congestion challenge at the existing school.
He assured that stakeholders in education in the electoral area will do their part to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Present to supervise the handing over of the school project site was Mr. Charles Adjei, Metro Planning Officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
