German President Cut-Sod for Construction Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies in Kumasi

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has cut-sod for the construction of a Centre of Excellence for Green Technologies at the Kumasi Technical Institute (KTI).

The Centre is being established with funding support from the German government to the tune of 5.6 million Euros.

It is expected to benefit technical students in the region and across the country, aligning with Ghana’s National Green Jobs Strategy Implementation Plan and Renewable Energy Master Plan .

Significantly, the ultramodern fully equipped centre aims to provide training in green technologies, including mechanics, plumbing, refrigeration and air-conditioning, electrical installation, and industrial garment.

Upon completion, it will help to improve livelihoods and contribute to addressing unemployment, particularly youth unemployment, in the country.

The German President was led on the inspection tour by the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Frank Amoakohene, Esumegyahene, Odeneho Okyere Kusi Ntrama, Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Ofori-Agyeman Boadi and Nana Adu Mensah Asare II, Amakomhene .

This visit forms part of President Steinmeier’s courtesy call on Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, at the Manhyia Palace.

According to the Minister for Education, the facility will contribute significantly to national growth and improve access to high-quality technical and vocational education and training in fields relevant to a green economy.

President Steinmeier’s visit to Ghana aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation in trade, technology, and development between Ghana and Germany.
