The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) and Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) can no longer tolerate foreigners engaging in retail business in Kumasi.
By December 9, 2025, foreigners in retail business should cease operations. This decision follows a recent meeting between the KMA and GUTA.
Pursuant to this, an implementation committee comprising representatives from the Ghana Immigration Service, Customs Excise and Preventive Service, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Investment Promotion Council, KMA, and GUTA has been formed, according to a press release issued by the Public Relations Unit of KMA on December 3.
The Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Act, 2013 (Act 865) prohibits foreigners from engaging in retail business.
The release advises foreigners in retail business within the metropolis to voluntarily cease operations; otherwise, they will be compelled to do so after December 9.
