A 40-year-old man and his 12-year-old son have suffered severe body injuries after the man ignorantly detonated a metal object, suspected to be a grenade.
The man, who has since been identified by the Nkawie District Police as Thomas Beako, unfortunately had all his left fingers instantly cut off following the explosion.
His son also sustained injuries in his hands. The boy’s injuries were, however, not as severe as that of his father.
The incident reportedly happened on November 30, 2025 when Thomas Beako and his son were walking to their farm at Nkawie New Site in the Ashanti Region at about 10 a.m.
Mr. Beako, reportedly, saw a metal object on the ground, and upon opening it by pulling a pin that was attached to it, the object exploded, causing injuries to him and his son.
“Police received information from Nkawie/Toase Government Hospital that, one Thomas Beako, aged 40 years and his son, aged 12 years, were brought to the said facility with unusual injuries on their bodies.
“Police proceeded to the Nkawie/Toase Government Hospital Emergency Ward and saw victims Thomas Beako and his son receiving treatment.
“The victim told police that he picked an object, suspected to be grenade, on his way to his farm at Nkawie New Site and upon opening it by pulling a pin that was attached to it, the object exploded and cut off all his left fingers,” a police report said.
The incident scene, the Nkawie District Police report added, was visited “where blood stain was seen around with one of the fingers but no particles of the alleged object was seen.”
