Empower youth to consider agriculture as gateway to prosperity

Less than 1 minute Minutes

Mr. Raymond Ocloo, the District Director of Agriculture for Ahafo Ano South East, has asked for the empowerment of young people to consider agriculture as a pathway to prosperity in life.

Agriculture is commonly considered the backbone of Ghana’s economy, creating jobs for several thousand people in the country; however, it’s not attractive to young people due to various challenges confronting the industry.

Perturbed by the declining interest of youth in agriculture, he stated that though the government has laid the foundations of agriculture, it demands investment in the sector.

By that, he meant to suggest that the government must invest in modern agriculture, irrigation, storage, and research to make the industry buoyant, creating jobs and a value chain.

He made the statement when addressing the District Farmers’ Day durbar at Biemso No. 2 on Friday, December 5, 2025.

The District Director of Agriculture noted that support for agriculture will also boost local industries and grow Ghana’s economy from the ground up.

He commended farmers for their immense contribution to food security, noting that it’s prudent to celebrate them.

He also commended the DCE, MP, traditional leaders, assembly members, organizers, and other stakeholders for ensuring a successful celebration in the district.
