“The media should hold stakeholders in road safety in check and accountable.
“It’s the responsibility of the media to hold Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), transport unions, activists, and other road users accountable to make progress in the road safety campaign”.
These were the words of Mr. Akwasi Brobbey, Bloomberg Philanthropies Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) Coordinator for Kumasi.
At a training workshop for selected journalists in Kumasi held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Mr. Brobbey made the statement and urged the media to prioritize road safety to save lives, drive change, and boost the economy, among other benefits.
He opined that holding stakeholders accountable would ensure effective delivery and desired results.
Mr. Brobbey added that awareness of the road safety campaign should be accompanied by enforcement to ensure full compliance with road safety measures, noting that the media could help achieve the desired results.
He appealed to the media to explore various ways to cover the road safety agenda to save lives, protect properties, and grow the economy.
